Vertigo Treatment in Boise, Idaho

Vertigo Keeps Coming Back? Could Your Neck Be the Missing Piece?

If the Epley maneuver, medication or vestibular rehabilitation has not fully resolved your dizziness — and you also have neck pain, stiffness, headaches or a history of head or neck injury — your upper neck may deserve a closer look.

Vertigo has several possible causes. We begin by determining whether your history points toward an upper-neck contribution. If it does not, we will tell you.

You've Already Tried to Find the Cause

Testing, medication, Epley maneuvers or vestibular rehabilitation may have helped temporarily, but the dizziness, imbalance or unsteadiness keeps returning. Your upper neck deserves greater consideration when several of these clues occur together:

  • Dizziness occurs with neck pain or stiffness.
  • Symptoms began after whiplash, concussion, a fall or another injury.
  • Dizziness changes with neck movement, stiffness or pain.
  • You experience headaches or pressure near the base of the skull.
  • You feel unsteady, "off," floating or disconnected from your surroundings.
  • Epley maneuvers or vestibular rehabilitation provided incomplete or temporary relief.
  • Previous evaluation has not fully explained your continuing symptoms.
These clues indicate that the relationship between your upper neck and dizziness should be evaluated.

How We Determine Whether Upper Cervical Care May Fit

1

We Listen to Your History

We discuss when the dizziness began, what it feels like, how long it lasts, what triggers it, associated neck symptoms, previous injuries, prior diagnoses, and what has or has not helped.

2

We Examine and Measure Your Upper Neck

If your history indicates that upper cervical care may be appropriate, we proceed with an examination and precision X-rays. Upper cervical care is an X-ray-guided procedure — your X-rays allow us to measure the position of your upper neck and calculate a correction vector based on your unique anatomy. The correction is gentle and calculated from your measurements, with no twisting, popping or cracking.
